ants 16 Sep 09 - Wednesday - 7:24 p.m.
I have a theory that the ant colony at my apartment had actually migrated here from my parents’ place. I had hitherto never had to worry about ants in my apartment until my parents came over to care for me after the birth of Peanut. After they left, we suddenly developed ants in the kitchen in living room. Since my parents’ place had a proliferation of ants, I figured that some of them may have sneaked into my parents’ belongings and were carried over here to set up a new home.* An ant followed me to work today in my breast pump. It endured being put into a zip lock bag, survived a car ride to my parents place [so near to the origins of his own clan!], a train ride to work and all day in my handbag. While I was expressing milk in the evening, I noticed him climbing around the air duct of my breast pump. Too late to take him out. He milled about through all 30 minutes of me running the pump before I carefully released him onto the carpeted floor of my office, so that he could go off to form his own colony too, just like his ancestors, the ants who came from my parents’ place to mine. * It’d be really cool if he succeeded. Then the ants in the office and the ants at home and the ants at my parents’ would have something else in common other than me.
